I wanted to chat a bit more in depth today about success. There are tons of “keys” to success, but being accountable for your actions is one of the biggest. Success as a photographer can’t be measured compared to those around you, so stop.
You can’t compare yourself to me and decide your success level based on that and you can’t compare yourself to Jasmine Star or that ‘craigslist photographer’ just starting out. The only true way you can measure your own success to to create goals for yourself, and hold yourself accountable to achieving them.
When you create goals for yourself and your business you create something for you to work toward, something you’re capable of achieving and keeping balance with your life at the same time. These goals don’t need to be too lofty or too easy. They should give you a challenge without being unattainable. If you make 5 goals for your business every year and you achieve 4 of them – that’s success!!
Only you can determine how truly successful your business will be and only you can measure that amount of success for yourself. If you work hard, set goals, and work toward achieving them you’ll gain some amount of success for sure.

Amelia - Good points. Every photographer is different and each can bring their own perspective to a photo. If you have a passion for this kind of career that too will come thru. And most times the like or dislike is just the opinion of the viewer.
lisa currie-gurney - I think your my angel sent from above.
Thank you Carrie. It’s exactly what I needed.
