The wildfires here have certainly hit home. If you live in Colorado you’ve seen the news, everything shutting down and are hearing about power being turned off and tens of thousands of people being forced to pack up and evacuate their homes. In Colorado Springs (one of the largest cities we have in Colorado) 32,000 people have been evacuated and the fire is burning homes into the city. The images on the news are heartbreaking.
I realize that this news is devastating and has nothing to do with our photography community here, but I think when something like this is happening in my backyard I need to do what I can to help my community and my state.
While I’m a safe distance from most of the fires, the scenes of devastation are beginning to affect people I know, friends of friends and beyond. Everyone knows someone whose home has been lost. It’s difficult to sit by and watch.
We have people here working their butts off to save what they can and help others. We have amazing firefighters out there risking everything to do what they can.
That being said, 20% of all sales from anything in The Shop (classes, ebooks, guides, even mentoring) I will be donating to the Colorado Red Cross to help our community starting now (at 10pm Mountain Time on 6/26/12 through 6/30/12 at midnight (Mountain Time). Please consider purchasing an item to help donate or going and donating yourself.
For the sake of your trust I’ll take a photograph of the final donation I send off on Saturday.
